Expansion of Metal Production

Founded in October 2001, the company Belt d.o.o. has established itself as a wholesaler of wood, construction material (including steel beams) and sanitary equipment. Steel and metal products for construction purposes are produced and/or finished by the company in Serbia. Almost one quarter of the company’s total sales (around 90,000 tons per year) is accounted for by reinforced wire mesh, which is one of the main products that is processed and finished by the company.

To meet customers’ demands, which exceed the company’s capacity, Belt has been supplementing its own production with products from purchased in from other suppliers, bridging delivery delays and stock shortages. This problem is especially acute for electro-welded reinforcing mesh products. For this reason, the company invested in new machinery to replace the old lines and expand its electro-welded mesh production capacity by 25,000 tons annually, with the possibility to increase production even further. The new production line is also more energy efficient, produces less waste and protects the health and safety of workers.

The company received free technical assistance to optimize its investment project and 15% grant cash-back after the successful project verification, funded by the European Union.

With the investment, the company now meets a wide variety of standards, including:

  • Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products and repealing Council Directive 89/106/EEC.
    • Directive 2012/27/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 October 2012 on energy efficiency, amending Directives 2009/125/EC and 2010/30/EU and repealing Directives 2004/8/EC and 2006/32/EC Text with EEA relevance
    • 2006/42/EC on machinery, and amending Directive 95/16/EC (recast)
    • Directive 2014/30/EU on the harmonization of the laws of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility (recast)
